The Versatility of 12V, 230V, and LPG Power

The "3-way" name comes from the ability to run on three different power sources, offering you total flexibility regardless of where your journey takes you. This versatility is the key to true freedom camping in NZ:

• LPG Gas Mode: The ultimate off-grid solution. A standard 9kg gas bottle can power most fridges for approximately three weeks, allowing you to camp away from powered sites without the need for a massive battery bank or solar array.
• 230V Mains Power: Perfect for when you are plugged in at a motorhome park or pre-chilling the unit at home before a trip.
• 12V DC Mode: Designed to maintain the temperature while you are in transit, drawing power from your towing vehicle’s alternator.

Many modern models also feature Auto Energy Select (AES) technology, which automatically chooses the most efficient power source available—prioritising 230V first, then vehicle 12V, and finally gas when you are parked up off-grid.

Installation and Ventilation Requirements

Because absorption fridges use a heat-exchange system, proper installation is critical for performance. These units must be installed against an external vehicle wall within a sealed "gas-tight" cabinet. This ensures that any combustion fumes are kept separate from your living area. Additionally, high-quality fridge vents must be fitted to the exterior of your caravan to allow heat to escape; without adequate ventilation, the cooling performance will be significantly reduced.
