Propex Heaters

Every campervan owner knows the importance of having a heating unit that will provide adequate and economical heating for them and their travel partners during cold days and nights on the road. Manufactured by Propex, Heatsource air blown heaters are used throughout the world in motorhomes, caravans, horsefloats, mobile workshops etc. In fact, they are the most commonly installed motorhome gas heater in New Zealand.

How they work

The Heatsource heater models require minimal DC power for ignition and the fan. LPG is combusted to provide the heating energy. Air for the combustion is drawn into the heater from outside the Motorhome via an intake pipe. It is passed into the heater's combustion chamber, mixed with LPG and is automatically ignited to heat up the large surface area of a heat-exchanger. The combustion exhaust air is kept totally separate from the inside cabin air and is blown back outside through an exhaust pipe. Cool inside cabin air is sucked into the heater, passes the heat exchanger (where it warms up) and is blown back into the cabin again.

There are 2 heater models available which represent different heat outputs. The Propex HS2000 is rated at 1.9kw of heat output and the Propex HS2800 is rated at 2.8kw.

Both the HS2000 and HS2800 are supplied with an electronic thermostat which automatically switches the heater on / off to maintain the desired temperature. When the room temperature drops below the selected level, the heater will automatically ignite and run until the cabin reaches the selected temperature. The thermostat is easy to fit and operate. There’s minimal electric current consumption (1.4A for the HS2000, 1.9A for the HS2800) so running the heater does not have a significant drain on your campervan house battery.

Quiet Operation

Propex air blown heaters are designed to be quiet in operation without compromising air throughput and heat output. There is some air noise as it produces a healthy throughput of air, however, by using high quality balanced fans and smooth enclosed motors with ball race bearings, noise is kept to a minimum.

Safety

Propex air heaters are rigorous tested (and the focus is very much on safety). They conform to the latest European standards for both the appliance and the electronics.
The ‘intelligent’ electronics are continuously monitoring the operation of the heater to make sure everything is operating correctly and safely. This includes monitoring of the flame, case temperature, combustion airflow, gas solenoid valve and voltage. Should any of these stray outside of the predetermined levels, the heater will be switched off and the red light on the thermostat will indicate a fault by flashing a certain number of times.

Heater Installation

Both the Heatsource HS2000 and HS2800 are supplied as complete installation kits. When installed in motorhomes or caravans the unit is usually mounted on the floor either under a seat, in a bed-box or cupboard. The combustion intake and exhaust are flued down through the floor and out to the side of the vehicle using flexible stainless ducting. The warm air is ducted to and outlet through tough flexible ducting.

Installation Manuals

Below you will find a link to the heater installation manuals. Although most of the installation can be done by a competent handy-man, a gas fitter should always do the gas installation.

Commonly Asked Questions

Q: How many outlets can you put on the Heatsource 2000?
A: The maximum recommended is 3, providing the total combined length of ducting is no longer than 5 metres.

Q: How noisy is the heater?
A: There is very little burner noise from the heater itself. However, there will be some noise from the blown hot air similar to that of a small domestic fan heater.

Q: Where can the heater be fitted?
A: Most installations are mounted in a bedbox or locker. External installation is not recommended unless using the appropriate mounting box.

Q: Can the heater be mounted vertically?
A: No. The heater must be mounted horizontally. It must not be mounted vertically or upside down or on an angle.
