Engel portable fridge-freezers have a unique swing motor designed to take the harshest of conditions including operation at a 30 degree angle. This motor has only one moving part, the piston is connected to an electro dynamic device which is powered by magnetic fields. With this technology there is no need for bearings, cranks, or con-rods. With less moving parts there is less chance of failure and very low friction loss making it a highly efficient compressor.

The swing motor also has no high start up current draw as when it starts it just moves down a fraction then returns. It slowly increases the distance the piston travels each stroke until it reaches full stroke. The swing motor does not need to perform a full stroke on start up unlike many rotary type compressors.
